France confirms first case of Ebola virus disease

The French Ministry of Health said on Wednesday that France has confirmed its first case of Ebola Virus

The ministry made the confirmation after a doctor had returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to the ministry, the doctor was immediately admitted to a specialised facility and is in a stable condition.

Recall that the Democratic Republic of Congo announced an Ebola outbreak last month, but experts believe the virus had been circulating for weeks previously.

Over 260 people are confirmed to have died from the virus in the central African country, while 1,000 people have been infected.

DAILY POST reports that Ebola Virus Disease is a rare, severe, and often fatal illness in humans caused by a group of viruses called orthoebolaviruses.

It primarily spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated objects, causing symptoms that include sudden fever, severe bleeding, and organ failure.
