Friendly: Super Eagles step up preparations for Russia clash with 19 players

Nineteen players are currently in the Super Eagles’ camp in Nizhny Novgorod ahead of their international friendly against Russia on Tuesday.

The team has been weakened by injuries and the refusal of some clubs to release their players for the encounter.

Captain Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Akpe were unable to honour the invitation due to injury, while Bright Osayi-Samuel, Raphael Onyedika and Ridwan Abdulrasaq Popoola were prevented from travelling to Russia by their respective clubs.

Late invitee Ibraheem Ajasa of FC Rostov, Russia, arrived at the team’s camp on Monday, bringing the number of players in camp to 19.

The Super Eagles will hold their final training session tonight as they put the finishing touches to their preparations for Tuesday’s friendly against Russia.

The game slated for the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium will kick-off at 5pm Nigerian time.
