GAMBIA TO HOST WAFU A ZONAL WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Following the granting of a provisional approval by Caf, the first international event to be held at the refurbished Independence Stadium will be the Wafu Zone A women’s club championship which will also serve as the zonal qualifier for the Caf Women’s Club Champions League.

The tournament takes place from the 25th August to 6th September. Six countries represented by their women’s champions will take part.

The clubs are divided into two groups with Berewuleng of The Gambia, AS Bolonta of Guinea and Usfas of Mali in Group A. The other group comprises Aigles Medina FC of Senegal, Determine Girls FC of Liberia and Mogbwemo Queens FC of Sierra Leone.

The format of the tournament is such that the winner and runners up from one group will take on those from the other group in the semifinals. There is a third place classification match before the final.

 The winner of the tournament wins an automatic ticket to the Caf Women’s Champions’ League.
