GOC Urges Commanders To Leave Lasting Legacies Via Welfare Projects

 

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, has urged commanders of formations and units under the Division to initiate projects that improve personnel welfare and enhance operational efficiency.

Major General Emekah gave the charge during the commissioning of a newly renovated accommodation block and a dual-purpose photo stand with a notice board at the Headquarters of 29 Battalion, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.

Speaking at the event, the GOC said providing decent, secure and conducive accommodation for troops and their families remains a priority of the Division, noting that improved living conditions boost morale, welfare and the fighting efficiency of personnel.

“Providing decent, secure, and conducive accommodation for troops and their families remains a key priority of my command,” Emekah said.

 

He commended the Commanding Officer of 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ochigbo, for initiating the projects and urged personnel to maintain the facilities to ensure they serve future generations.

Commissioning the dual-purpose photo stand and notice board, Major General Emekah described the project as more than a decorative structure.

“It is an important regimental and communication facility that preserves institutional memory, promotes esprit de corps, and projects the unit’s identity,” he said.

The GOC encouraged commanders across the Division to continue executing impactful projects, irrespective of their size, stressing that every meaningful initiative contributes to the growth and development of the Nigerian Army.

 

Earlier, the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ochigbo, thanked the GOC for his leadership and support, saying the projects were inspired by the directive to sustain the developmental strides of his predecessor.

He also reaffirmed the Battalion’s commitment to the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldier First Culture” through initiatives that promote personnel welfare and operational effectiveness.

Senior officers, commanders of formations and units, officers, soldiers, and guests attended the commissioning, which featured the unveiling and inspection of the projects as well as a group photograph.
