In a bid to expand the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative across the country, the Federal Government has inaugurated the National Automotive Training and CNG Conversion Centre in Kebbi State.

The Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, inaugurated the centre at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi.

The inauguration of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) Automotive Training and CNG Conversion Centre also featured the graduation of youths who completed specialised training in mechatronics.

The centre is expected to serve as a one-stop facility for petrol-to-CNG vehicle conversion in Kebbi State, with trained technicians providing conversion, repair, and maintenance services.

The Director-General of NADDC, Oluwemimo Joseph, said the Federal Government’s commitment to human capital development informed the establishment of 22 automotive training centres across the country, all equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

The Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, said the centre was established to equip youths with practical skills in line with President Bola Tinubu’s human capital and skills development agenda.

While appreciating the Federal Government for establishing the centre, the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Tafida, appealed to NADDC to provide sustained support to ensure the facility is effectively utilised.

He also called for the establishment of CNG and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Kebbi State to encourage the adoption of cleaner energy and improve the economic viability of the training centre.

As the NADDC Automotive Training and CNG Conversion Centre begins operations, it will focus on the repair, maintenance, and conversion of petrol and CNG-powered tricycles and motorcycles in Kebbi State.
