Says Navy intervention complements Inuwa Yahaya’s agenda

GOMBE — The Gombe State Government has commissioned a newly constructed and furnished 10-bedroom Corps Members’ Lodge and an upgraded dispensary in Malam Sidi, Kwami Local Government Area of the state.
The projects were executed under the Nigerian Navy Civil-Military Quick Intervention Projects in honour of Rear Admiral Sulaiman Haruna Abdullahi.
Commissioning the facilities on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, commended Abdullahi for his dedication to national service and for facilitating the projects for the benefit of his community.
Jatau also thanked the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for approving and ensuring the execution of the intervention projects, describing them as initiatives with significant humanitarian and developmental impact.
He said the projects aligned with the state government’s commitment to improving security, welfare and living conditions since the inception of the administration in 2019.
The Deputy Governor noted that the Nigerian Navy had previously executed several Civil-Military Quick Intervention Projects across the state, including a health facility and solar-powered borehole at Wuro Dole; a solar-powered borehole at Dungaje Mona in Balanga Local Government Area; and three solar-powered boreholes at Jeka da Fari.
According to him, the newly commissioned lodge and upgraded dispensary further demonstrated how the Nigerian Navy’s interventions were complementing the developmental efforts of the state government.
Jatau also acknowledged the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen security and grassroots development in Gombe State.
He particularly welcomed the proposed establishment of the 27 Armoured Brigade and its subordinate formations in the state, including the 271 Tank Battalion in Bajoga and another formation in Kaltungo.
He said the development had generated excitement among the government and people of Gombe State.
“Gombe State has been doing its best in the area of security. Sincerely, the news of the proposed establishment of the 27 Armoured Brigade and its subordinate units in Gombe State, including the 271 Tank Battalion in Bajoga and the formation in Kaltungo, is gladdening to us.
“For this, the Governor, the Government and the good people of Gombe State remain grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. This is an effort we must all support and take ownership of,” he said.
Jatau said the newly commissioned projects were responsive to the needs of the people and complemented the governor’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and the general welfare of citizens.
He stressed that healthcare facilities should serve humanity without discrimination, irrespective of social status, ethnicity, race or religion.
The Deputy Governor particularly commended Abdullahi for facilitating the construction of the Corps Members’ Lodge, noting that the facility would provide comfortable accommodation for NYSC members posted to the area for their one-year national service.
He urged residents of Malam Sidi to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their protection and proper maintenance.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, the Director of Project Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation, Rear Admiral Mohammad Yakubu Dahiru, said the Nigerian Navy recognised the importance of community development through meaningful and people-oriented projects.
He explained that the Civil-Military Quick Intervention initiative was designed to strengthen relations between the Nigerian Navy, governments and communities while promoting unity and national development.
Dahiru commended the project facilitator for actualising the vision of the Chief of Naval Staff through the completion of the projects.
Earlier, the Project Facilitator, Rear Admiral Sulaiman Haruna Abdullahi, thanked the Chief of Naval Staff for giving him the opportunity to facilitate the intervention projects in his community.
He said the newly constructed and furnished 10-bedroom Corps Members’ Lodge was inspired by the Deputy Governor and expressed confidence that it would provide decent and comfortable accommodation for NYSC members posted to Malam Sidi.
Abdullahi said the renovated and upgraded dispensary, formerly used as an Area Health Office inherited from the colonial era, would provide improved healthcare services to residents of Malam Sidi and neighbouring communities.
He appealed to residents to take ownership of the facilities, protect them from vandalism and ensure their proper maintenance.
The naval officer also thanked the Gombe State Government, the Chairman of Kwami Local Government Area and the people of Malam Sidi for their support and cooperation during the execution of the projects.
In a goodwill message on behalf of the facilitator’s family, retired Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Yerima, described the projects as a source of pride and honour to the family and the people of Kwami Local Government Area.
He appealed to the Chief of Naval Staff to consider establishing a Naval Secondary School in the area, citing the strategic advantage of the Malam Sidi River, located about 10 kilometres from the town.
Yerima said such an institution could enhance educational development and expand the Nigerian Navy’s civil-military presence in the area.
Other speakers, including the Chairman of Kwami Local Government Area, the Senior District Head of Kwami, Alhaji Aminu Haruna Abdullahi, and a Board Member of the Malam Sidi Progressive Association, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad, commended the Nigerian Navy and Rear Admiral Abdullahi for attracting the projects to the community.
They described the intervention as a major contribution to healthcare, education, youth welfare and community development.
Shortly after the commissioning, Jatau inspected the two facilities and participated in a symbolic tree-planting exercise.
Awards were also presented to Governor Inuwa Yahaya, the Deputy Governor and other prominent members of the community in recognition of their contributions and support towards the development of the area.
Stakeholders said the commissioning represented another milestone in the growing collaboration between the Gombe State Government and the Nigerian Navy in advancing community welfare, security and sustainable development.
Members of the Deputy Governor’s entourage included the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; the Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari; commissioners, special advisers, heads of security agencies and other senior government officials.
