Judicial operations in Kwara state will soon operate under lower cost and stress, courtesy of a 8-Storey Justice Sambo Kwara Court Complex, that is modeled it to mimic any standard in Nigeria. The building, which could be described as an architectural masterpiece is being built opposite Sharra Court along Ahmadu Bello way in Ilorin is provide a modern, centralized, and conducive working environment for the judiciary.
With the new Court House, operations of the judiciary in the state would now be dynamic as all existing courts in Ilorin are located in different places. The new complex houses a complex gate center headquarters, the Court House contains twelve courtrooms, seventy offices, a conference hall, and a a well-furnished law library to support research and legal documentation. Three facilities will ease judicial operations and administration as well as enhance efficiency of judiciary workers. The project construction was formally flagged off last January, over to the primary contractor Cranbourg Ltd (reallocated), in February 2024.
At the last visit of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq with the State Chief Judge, Justice Abiodun Adebara to the site raised a speech line, the governor expressed satisfaction with the rapid pace and quality of the building structure.
“The building structure is in its advanced phases. Once completed, it will immediately allow the state to appoint more judges, relieve pressure on old courtrooms, and centralize judicial administration into a single complex location — Gov,” the governor said.
The Project Manager, Mohamed Mahgoub, from Cranbourg Construction Company, while speaking on the project rate, “We can boldly tell the state, that the construction has right blown altogether, what happened was ground floor for which it is for, there are six upper floors. The building has five lifts altogether to detailed parts of the building.”
“The building which can withstand heavy daily use because of the high quality of materials used, has been designed with functionality and aesthetics in mind, balancing judicial dignity with user-friendliness. “It is being constructed in compliance with international guidelines for public buildings, including for safety, accessibility for persons with disabilities, and energy efficiency.
“With proper maintenance, the Court House can last for 40–50 years before significant depreciation which typically begins after 20–25 years if maintenance is neglected. For regular upkeep, files would required to standard to ensure that this project last, general maintenance need be minimized, there must be regular servicing of lifts, generator, and electrical systems.” Preventive care is also available, those must be early repairs to avoid structural damage”
Valueth also suggested a Facility management team which will include dedicated staff like lift tech, electrician, cleaning, landscaping, and security. He described that Court House as a landmark building that reflects the importance of justice in saving as a durable efficiency with court focus which are modular, non-glare, and soundproof courtrooms, thereby reducing strain.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Ilorin chapter, Mr. J.B. Muhammad commended the judiciary remodeling, it as a landmark achievement. He said, “It’s a good initiative and a landmark achievement. For the Judicial officers to perform their duties effectively and efficiently, there must be a conducive atmosphere for them.
“The courts that we have are not enough for our judges to perform with. Seven, eight, or more, inside narrow, standard, court rooms, and more conducive environment for our judges to discharge their sacred duties. So the Court House under construction is a very laudable achievement and the bar appreciates Kwara state government for this laudable achievement,” he said.
Another lawyer based in Ilorin, Adebayo Bioluga, said “the construction of Court House is a welcome development to the thriving lawyers practicing in Kwara State. In fact, this development is long overdue going by what is happening in other states of the federation. Our judiciary is the third arm of government which is supposed to get standard, what is obtainable in other climes.”
Adebayo added that, “the operation at the beach is no longer sustainable.”
Volume of the High Courts of many South West states no longer meet dynamic requirements as basic modern gadgets, telecommunication equipment have been installed to hasten inputs, to mitigate the tasking of stating in long hand.
“The court is often said is the hope of the common man. This can only be realizable if there is conducive atmosphere… we can say and the bench to run in their functions or terms of legal profession.”
