Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has issued a two-week ultimatum to contractors handling the ongoing Judiciary Quarters project in Uyo to significantly improve the pace of work or risk having their contracts terminated.
Governor Eno gave the directive during an unscheduled inspection of the project on Wednesday after expressing dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work and finding the site virtually deserted despite the release of funds for the project.
The Judiciary Quarters project is a 50-unit housing development comprising five-bedroom duplexes intended to provide institutional accommodation for judges and other top judicial officers in the state.
The governor also cautioned the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) responsible for supervising the project, warning that lax oversight and delays in execution would no longer be tolerated.
According to him, government should not be compelled to chase contractors and workers to deliver projects they have already been paid to execute, stressing that his administration would enforce accountability at all levels.

Governor Eno directed the contractors to return to the site immediately and demonstrate visible progress within the next two weeks, warning that failure to do so would result in contract termination and, where necessary, the recovery of government funds.
He lamented that although many people complain about unemployment, opportunities created through government projects are often not taken seriously, insisting that jobs should be earned through commitment, diligence and performance rather than favouritism.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to timely project delivery, the governor said the Judiciary Quarters project, which commenced in January, must be completed and ready for commissioning by December.
Governor Eno added that ongoing government projects across the state would continue to receive close monitoring to ensure contractors and supervising agencies deliver according to specifications and within agreed timelines.
