Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has urged newly deployed Nigerian Army troops in the state to intensify operations against bandits and other criminal elements threatening communities in the Yauri axis.
The Army has deployed additional troops to Yauri to strengthen ongoing operations against banditry in Yauri, Shanga, Ngaski and neighbouring communities.
Idris made the call on Friday while inspecting the newly deployed troops in Yauri, where he commended the Chief of Army Staff for responding to the security needs of the state.
The governor described the reinforcement as timely and strategic, saying it would strengthen ongoing efforts to restore peace and protect residents in affected communities.
He said the Yauri axis remains a major security concern because of its proximity to Niger and Zamfara states, while Fakai Local Government Area shares a boundary with Sokoto State.
He added that Kebbi also shares an international border with the Republic of Benin.
Idris urged the troops to pursue bandits and other criminal elements and ensure that peace is restored to affected communities, particularly to enable displaced farmers to return safely to their farmlands.
“I want to call on all of you to ensure that you wipe out these bandits. They continue to attack our innocent communities, and with your deployment, I am confident that, by God’s grace, you will successfully address the challenge of banditry in this area,” he said.
The governor assured the troops of the state government’s continued support for their operations and stressed the need for collaboration between federal and state authorities in addressing insecurity.
He also acknowledged the sacrifices of security personnel operating in the state and expressed confidence in the Nigerian Army’s capacity to confront banditry and protect lives and property across the affected areas.
