GUSAU — The Zamfara State Government, under Governor Dauda Lawal, has committed about N125 billion to the construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads across the state in 2026, in a major infrastructure drive aimed at improving connectivity and opening up communities.
The projects, spread across the three senatorial zones, include major inter-town roads, emergency routes, bridges, link roads and dual carriageways, with several of the interventions targeting communities that have faced poor road access over the years.
One of the flagship projects of the Dauda Lawal administration is the 105-kilometre Gusau-Magami-Dansadau Road, which has an allocation of N20 billion.
The government is also spending N15 billion on the Kantin Daji-Unguwar Gwaza and Roundabout-Airport corridors, while N12 billion is allocated to the Kantin Daji Road linking Bebeji, Aminu Aliyu Road, Tudun Wada Roundabout and other sections of Gusau.
Another N10 billion is earmarked for the 53-kilometre Gusau-Jauri-Dogon Kade-Nasarawa Mailayi-Nasarawar Godal roads in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area.
The reconstruction of Titin Bala Mande to Gadar Abu Magaji Road is also receiving N10 billion, while another N10 billion is allocated to the Daza-Gidan Dawa-Sokoto Road, including its dual carriageway section in Gusau and Bungudu Local Government Area.
In Tsafe Local Government Area, N10 billion is being committed to the 94.85-kilometre Yandoton Daji-Doka-Yanwaren Daji-Hayin Alhaji-Bedi-Yankuzo-Tsafe Road.
Other major projects include the N5 billion Abu Magaji Bridge-Zampoll Road, with a spur to Darul Hadith in Gusau, and another N5 billion for the Maradun-Magami-Faru Road in Maradun Local Government Area.
In Bukkuyum Local Government Area, N4 billion has been allocated to the 23-kilometre Mallamawa-Zarummai-Bukkuyum Road, with a spur to Zarummai-Masama Road.
The government has also earmarked N3 billion for the 14-kilometre Lalan-Lalan Road in Gusau and another N3 billion for the Maru-Lugga Road and Sankalawa Bridge in Maru Local Government Area.
A further N2 billion is allocated to the road from the former office to City King Hotel Roundabout, Command Science Secondary School, Barakallahu, and its link to the Kaura Namoda dual carriageway in Gusau.
The 10-kilometre Zurmi-Rukudawa Road in Zurmi Local Government Area is receiving N2 billion, while N1.5 billion is allocated to the Bukkuyum-Birnin Zauma-Gummi Road.
The state government has also earmarked N1 billion for the Zamfara Plaza-Hilal Hospital-Presidential Lodge-Federal INEC dual carriageway in Gusau.
Another N1 billion is allocated to the Abu Magaji Bridge-Zampoll Road with a spur to Darul Hadith.
The completion of the Emir’s Palace Junction-Water Tank Roundabout-Nasiha Chemist (Old Market) Roundabout-Central Police Station Roundabout corridor in Gusau is receiving N1 billion, while the Maradun-Makera Road is allocated N1 billion.
Several smaller but strategic road interventions are also included in the programme.
They include N500 million for the Premier Road-Sadiqu Sadiq Road link and N500 million for the 21-kilometre Tasha Babba-Lambar Kyambarawa Road in Nahuche Ward of Bungudu.
The Kwatarkwashi-Tofa-Samawa-Rawayya Bela Road, covering 15 kilometres, has an allocation of N300 million.
The government also earmarked N100 million each for Kaya Road and the Lambar Asako-Asako Road, covering three kilometres, as well as the Lambar Ka’ida-Ka’ida Road and Sankalawa Bridge.
The Governor Dauda Lawal-led administration has also set aside N5 billion for the construction of emergency roads across the three senatorial zones of the state.
The broad road programme is expected to improve movement between communities, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, enhance access to markets and public institutions and stimulate economic activity across Zamfara.
The projects cover Gusau, Bungudu, Tsafe, Maradun, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Zurmi, Maru and Birnin Magaji local government areas, among others.
The focus on major highways alongside smaller community roads is also expected to improve connectivity between rural communities and major urban centres.
For the Lawal administration, the road projects form a major component of its infrastructure programme, with the government seeking to address long-standing transportation challenges while creating conditions for greater economic activity across the state.
