Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has approved an upward review of the salaries and allowances of all traditional rulers across the state.
The approval, which covers Emirs, district heads and village heads across the three senatorial districts, is aimed at improving their welfare and strengthening their capacity to effectively discharge their responsibilities at the grassroots.
In a statement on Thursday, Kaduna State Commissioner of Information and Culture Ahmed Maiyaki said the governor has also approved monthly security allowances for all thirty-five Emirates and Chiefdoms in Kaduna State, effective from September 1, 2026.
The measure, according to him, is expected to strengthen grassroots intelligence gathering and support security agencies in tackling crime and other security threats.
On his part, the Kaduna Commissioner of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman-Lagos, described traditional institutions as indispensable partners in grassroots governance, peace-building, conflict resolution and security.
He said the closeness of traditional rulers to their communities places them in a strategic position to detect emerging threats, provide timely intelligence and resolve disputes before they escalate.
The commissioner also called on traditional rulers to use the enhanced support to foster peaceful coexistence, strengthen mutual trust and promote harmony among the diverse communities in the state.
The Kaduna State Government has, in the meantime, urged residents to continue cooperating with traditional institutions and security agencies by providing timely and credible information to safeguard lives and property.
The government said the approval further demonstrates its commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and enhancing their role in peace, security and development across Kaduna State.
