Vehicular gridlock on the Oye-Ilupeju highway in Ekiti State has significantly eased following the successful completion of emergency palliative works by the Federal Government.
The rapid intervention came on the heels of a forty-eight-hour ultimatum issued by the Minister of State for Works, David Umahi, during an official site assessment of the failed road section on Tuesday.
Following the ministerial directive, maintenance teams were deployed to execute road-levelling and stabilisation works, successfully clearing the bottleneck and restoring vehicular traffic along the critical transport corridor.
Commercial motorists and commuters navigating the route have commended the Federal Government for the swift response and appealed for a complete reconstruction of the road.
“A few days ago, hundreds of trailers and heavy-duty trucks were parked on the road, blocking everywhere, but today we thank the federal government for the swift response, ensuring the damaged portion was fixed,” a resident, Gabriel Ogban, said.
The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) said the palliative works are only a temporary measure to ease gridlock on the road.
“We got approval from the head office in Abuja, so we moved to the site immediately,” a site engineer, Simon Adeniyi, said.
