At least three people have been killed and two others injured following an attack by gunmen on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway construction project in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The victims include two security operatives and an expatriate working on the road project, while two civilians sustained gunshot injuries.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kebbi State Police Command, Superintendent Bashir Usman, the incident occurred at a construction site in Gubba Village, through Andarai District of Maiyama Local Government Area.

Usman said armed men suspected to be Lakurawa terrorists, allegedly encroaching from the Kebbe axis of neighbouring Sokoto, attacked the construction site, killing two security agents and a foreign national.

He said two civilians were also injured in the attack and subsequently evacuated for medical attention.

The police spokesperson added that, on the same day, another attack by the suspected terrorists along the Birnin Malam axis was successfully repelled by police teams.

He said joint security forces responded to the attacks, with tactical teams deployed to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.

The PPRO further disclosed that scores of the attackers were neutralised by military personnel, while several motorcycles were recovered.

Following the incident, construction activities at the affected site have been suspended as security agencies intensify surveillance and deploy additional operatives to the area.

The PPRO assured workers on the project of the government’s commitment to their safety, urging them to remain calm and resolute as security agencies continue efforts to safeguard their lives and property.

Recently, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, visited Jandutsi and other neighbouring communities bordering Gubba Village to sympathise with residents over recent bandit attacks in the area.

The governor also reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to strengthening security and protecting communities affected by the attacks.
