Gunmen have reportedly killed a security operative on his way to his duty post along the Kwi-Beco road in Plateau State.

The incident, according to sources, occurred at about 7pm on Thursday around Kwi, between Riyom and Barkin Ladi local government areas of the state.

The security operative was reportedly travelling on a motorcycle to his duty post in the Chit area of Heipang when he was attacked and killed.

Sources said the assailants also made away with the motorcycle after the attack.

The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident and described it as disturbing.

Tengwong lamented that the killing of a security operative raised serious concerns about the safety of civilians in the affected communities.

He said it was particularly troubling that security personnel deployed to protect residents were themselves vulnerable to attacks.

The BYM spokesman condemned the killing and called for urgent measures to address the security challenges confronting communities in the area.

Efforts to reach security operatives for official confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful as of press time.
