Kogi State-born actress and skit maker Patience Erdoo Yisa is currently enjoying the spotlight as her latest cinematic offering, ‘The Devil’s Godfather’, shot in the coal city of Enugu, is generating buzz across the South-East and beyond as a barrier breaker.

The film, starring the likes of Kanayo O. Kanayo, Destiny Etiko, Yul Edochie, Jane Obi, Alex Usifo, Emma Ayalogu, and herself among many others, is poised to challenge the dominance of Lagos as the film hub in Nigeria.

Since its premiere in Enugu, ‘The Devil’s Godfather’ continues to gain traction locally and internationally. It’s been described by critics and movie enthusiasts as one of the finest productions to emerge from the South-East region in recent years.

According to Yisa, she put her skit-making career on hold in order to focus on the big-budget project, noting that she deliberately waited for an appropriate time to execute the film.

She said: “I wanted to do something different and at the end of the day an issue must be addressed. We know we have a lot of issues in Nigeria, from insecurity to the rest. This is a political movie, a very interesting one. I guess they have to see it to know what it is about. I was very deliberate about the cast I wanted to use. I needed those who would convincingly interpret my concept. That is why I cast the likes of Kanayo O. Kanayo, Destiny Etiko, Yul Edochie, Jane Obi, Alex Usifo, Emma Ayalogu, myself, Patience Yisa, among many others.

“The synopsis is a political message that is sending a strong signal to the polity. It is apt. It is coming at the right time. The movie encourages people to go into politics and maintain integrity, understanding that a good name is always better than wealth. There are so many messages in it.

“When I wanted to shoot the movie, there was no market for it. But people have seen the work I have put into it, and I get to choose the market I want it to be.

“It is high time producers began to shoot classy movies even on YouTube.”

The movie is produced by Patience Yisa TV in conjunction with Earthcore Mining and Energy Resources Limited.
