I can’t stand a stingy man — Ella Emmanuel

By Ayo Onikoyi
Fast-rising Nollywood actress and content creator Ella Emmanuel has revealed that stinginess is one quality she cannot tolerate in a romantic partner, describing generosity, kindness and emotional intelligence as essential traits she admires in a man.

The actress, whose real name is Emmanuella Ebele Onwuegbuzie, made the disclosure while reflecting on her career, personal values and relationships in an interview with Potpourri.

According to Ella, while physical attraction may spark interest, a man’s character ultimately determines whether a relationship can thrive.

“I love a kind-hearted, generous, intentional and intelligent man. I admire someone who knows what he wants, takes responsibility, respects women, communicates well and is emotionally mature,” she said.

She stressed that stinginess is a complete deal-breaker for her.

“One thing I cannot deal with is stinginess. Honestly, if you’re stingy, we probably can’t even be friends, let alone date. I’m naturally generous, so I appreciate someone with the same spirit. Kindness is attractive. Emotional intelligence is attractive. A man with purpose and vision is incredibly attractive,” she added.

Beyond her personal preferences, the actress also reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining her values in Nollywood, revealing that she has drawn clear boundaries regarding the roles she is willing to play.

While expressing her willingness to take on challenging characters to grow as an actress, Ella said she would never accept nude roles, regardless of the financial reward.

“I have personal values and boundaries that I won’t compromise. You will never see me taking nude roles or appearing naked in a movie, regardless of the amount of money involved. I believe it’s possible to deliver an outstanding performance without compromising my principles,” she said.

Speaking on her journey in the entertainment industry, the actress described acting as a career that has demanded significant sacrifices, including time, money and personal comfort.

She noted that building a successful career requires investing in oneself long before success becomes visible, adding that the challenges have made her stronger and more resilient.

Ella also recalled facing rejection, financial difficulties and moments of self-doubt during her rise in Nollywood but said the setbacks taught her resilience, patience and consistency.

According to her, those experiences have helped her focus on self-improvement rather than comparing her progress with that of others, as she continues to build her career in Nigeria’s film industry.
