Former Chelsea and Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel has said that he is yet to receive the plot of land promised to the players by the Federal Government.
Recall that after the team won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023, all members of the squad were promised plots of lands by the Nigerian government.
It was the government of then President, Goodluck Jonathan which made to promise to the team captained by Obi Mikel in South Africa.
Mikel noted that each player was promised a “massive plot of land” by the administration of Jonathan.
Speaking on a podcast hosted by Peter Crouch, Mikel said the team was given a grand reception after lifting the trophy, but the pledged reward has never materialised in his case.
“We got a nice reception. We got offered a massive plot of land each. I don’t think I know where mine is,” Mikel said.
Obi Mikel, who spent 18 years in active football, retired from the game in 2022 at the age of 35.
Mikel spent most of his career at Chelsea where he won numerous trophies, including the Champions League and the Premier League.
