I have been in govt more than Tinubu – Rotimi Amaechi

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, on Friday disclosed that he has been in government longer than President Bola Tinubu.

Amaechi disclosed that he spent more time as a governor, Speaker and minister, unlike Tinubu, who was a governor, senator and president.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former governor of Rivers State said he had been in government for 23 years.

According to Amaechi: “The president has been in government for some time but has not been in government like I have been. He has been a governor and pretty much a senator, four years governor and the next thing a senator.

“I have been a Speaker for eight years, I have been a governor for eight years, that is 16 years more than the president with all respect to him, and I have been a minister for nearly another eight years.

“So for 23 years I have been in government and I have passed through government, all the states and federal, so I can discuss some of these issues more than the president before he became president.

“Now he is president and he has more knowledge because all the things are with him, keep the president, any other person can come up for this conversation.”

Amaechi also noted that a cheaper fuel price would lead to smuggling of the product from Nigeria.

“Let’s take it if you audit the consumption of fuel you go below N700,000. The reason why there is an increase in that is that if the price is cheap here some will try to smuggle,” he added.
