Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has opened up about his entrepreneurial journey before venturing into politics, revealing that his akara and bread business once earned him at least ₦10 million every month.
According to the governor, he started the business by selling what he described as an “akara burger” — fresh akara stuffed inside bread — to workers heading to their offices in the morning.
“We still have that shop there, and I started selling akara and bread. We were doing bread and akara burger. We opened the bread and put akara in it for you,” Eno recalled.
He explained that the business quickly attracted workers, particularly employees of ExxonMobil, who would stop by in the mornings to buy the akara and bread. He later expanded the venture by opening a coffee shop to complement the food business.
“People going to work at ExxonMobil would buy it in the morning and take coffee. We started a coffee shop, and then they would take it every morning,” he said.
Eno said the business eventually became a major source of income for him, bringing in not less than ₦10 million monthly.
“That akara business and that bread used to give me not less than ten million naira, not less than that,” the governor stated.
