Landlord and other property owners from the six local government areas in Ibadan that were affected by the ongoing construction of Ibadan Circular Road have appealed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to compensate them before the end of his administration.
The victims made the demand at a meeting with the gubernatorial candidate of Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Abimbola Adekanmbi.
DAILY POST reports that the meeting was attended by hundreds of landowners, landlords, property owners, indigenes and traditional rulers from the affected local government areas.
The Ibadan Circular Road was initiated during the administration of Rasidi Ladoja,
the current Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The construction of a section of the road started during the administration of the immediate past governor, Abiola Ajimobi.
DAILY POST gathered that the ongoing construction affected hundreds of houses and properties in six LGAs – Akinyele, Egbeda, Ido, Oluyole, Lagelu and Ona Ara.Makinde had earlier constituted a committee to determine the modalities for the compensation of the victims.
But the victims, while speaking at the meeting with Adekanmbi on Sunday, said they have not received any compensation despite the approval of N5.8b by the governor.
They appealed to the governor to compensate them before the end of his tenure.
Representative of the victims, Prince Niyi Fasoye, appealed to Adekanmbi to meet Makinde on their behalf.
He said, “On segment one, the N5.8 billion was approved in April. But till now, they have not been paid. They have done verification, everything has been done.
“So this is one of the things that brought us there today. So we actually want all of these issues to be settled before the election next year.”
Adekanmbi in his reaction, noted that the current administration is working hard to pay the compensation on time.
He said, “The major thing that they want to see right now is compensation for the people that have been enumerated and verified. For the others that have not been verified, that the verification starts as soon as possible, so that it can go to approval and then subsequent compensation for those categories of people as well.”
