The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Gusau has announced his resignation.
Gusau made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja.
He has stepped down alongside other NFF board members with immediate effect.
““I just want to tell you that I decided to resign my position as the NFF President,” Gusau said.
“I informed my board members and advised them that anybody who wants to follow me to also resign.
“But as I am talking to you I cannot tell you who and who or how many board members that have resigned.”
This development comes amid intense scrutiny over the NFF’s handling of football in the country.
The scrutiny was triggered by the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria had always qualified for the tournament since its inception.
The Super Eagles also failed to qualify for back-to-back World Cups, missing out on the 2026 edition.
