The Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has thrown his weight behind the second term bid of the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago.
This was contrary to speculations in the political circle across the state.
Idris, who was in Minna to commiserate with the family of the late Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Alhaji Aminu Yussuf, also drummed support for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu.
Idris put speculations to rest last weekend when he paid a solidarity visit to the governor and pledged his support for his aspiration.
The minister commended the administration’s development initiatives and concluded that with his performance, the governor deserves continuity in office
He said Bago has demonstrated “a strong commitment to transforming Niger State through his administration’s New Niger Agenda”, stressing that the achievements recorded since the inception of the administration provided a basis for the governor to seek another term in office.
According to him, Bago’s second-term bid would provide an opportunity for the administration to consolidate ongoing projects, deepen its development programmes and build on the gains already recorded across various sectors.
Idris also called for continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, maintaining that the reforms and programmes being implemented by the federal government were aimed at repositioning the Nigerian economy and improving the living conditions of citizens.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians and members of the APC to support President Tinubu’s bid for another term, arguing that continuity would enable the federal government to consolidate the gains of its ongoing reform agenda.
Idris noted that the political objectives of the 2027 elections extended beyond individual ambitions, saying the APC should present a united front at both the national and state levels.
In his remarks, Bago expressed appreciation to the minister for the visit and the confidence reposed in his administration, reiterating his commitment to promoting the welfare and wellbeing of the people of State.
Bago vowed that his administration would continue to pursue policies and programmes designed to improve the quality of life of citizens.
