Iran closes Strait of Hormuz over Israel strikes in Lebanon

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

Iran’s central military command has announced the renewed closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, citing Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon and describing the actions as a violation of Tehran’s understanding with the United States.

The announcement was made on Saturday by the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters and broadcast on state television.

According to the statement, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been suspended as an initial response to what it called a breach of commitments by opposing forces.

“It is hereby announced that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to vessel traffic. This first step is a response to the enemy’s breach of promise, and if the aggression continues, further steps will be planned and taken to compel compliance with its obligations,” the military command stated.

The command further warned that additional measures could follow if hostilities persist, indicating that Tehran may escalate its response depending on developments in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for global oil shipments, and any disruption to traffic through the waterway is closely monitored by international markets and security analysts.
