Iran has confirmed President Masoud Pezeshkian’s trip to the United States to attend this week’s United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Pezeshkian is expected to address the gathering and present Iran’s positions on international developments, including the ongoing conflict.
The President will also confer with the leaders of several countries on the sidelines of the high-level UN conference, according to Tasnim state media.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, a key member of Iran’s team in international negotiations, will likewise travel to the US after a brief stop in Qatar.
The 81st session of the UNGA, themed: “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All,” is slated for September 22–26 and September 28.
Meanwhile, Iran’s parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has approved a clause in a bill covering the security and development of the Strait of Hormuz.
Article 10 of the bill provides for the construction, operation and expansion of communications and information technology infrastructure, including fibre-optic networks, in the Strait.
On Sunday, the US Central Command said its forces continued to enforce the naval blockade against Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.
“CENTCOM forces have redirected 109 commercial vessels to ensure total compliance,” the military command announced in a post on X.
