Iran is continuing retaliatory strikes on United States military sites in the region.
The latest targetted locations are in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan and Kuwait.
On Wednesday, a Shahed-136 drone struck Erbil International Airport in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. The eastern side of the airfield serves as a hub for American and coalition forces.
In Kuwait, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps hit a C RAM early warning radar and a meeting point for U.S. troops at Ali Al Salem Air Base as part of Operation Nasr 2’s eighth wave.
A video shows the moment a drone impacted a warehouse-like facility, causing a massive explosion. The Kuwaiti government later confirmed it intercepted four missiles and 21 drones.
The IRGC posted a photo of one of its new kamikaze drones deployed for the attack “dedicated” to Najm Abdullah Khalid Al-Tamimi, an Iraqi national Iran insists was “assassinated” by Kuwait.
On July 3, Khalid and his colleagues were on a fishing trip in the disputed Khor Abdullah waterway when a Kuwaiti Coast Guard patrol opened fire on their boat, resulting in Khalid’s demise.
Thaer Mohammed Salman, another fisherman on the ill-fated boat IFB166, was wounded in the incident condemned by Basra MP Alaa Al-Haidari and the Al-Faw Fishermen’s Association.
Three other fishermen initially detained by Kuwait’s authorities were released last week and returned to Iraq along with the deceased body and the injured crew member.
Iraqi security forces have increased security around the Kuwaiti consulate in Basra following public demonstrations over the death of Khalid, an over 30-year-old university student
Meanwhile, Washington has authorized a potential $484 million military sale to Kuwait for C-17 sustainment. It covers components, training, spare and repair parts, software support, communication equipment, etc.
The State Department has similarly approved a possible $1.96 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia to help the Kingdom deter current and future threats, and improve interoperability with U.S., regional, and NATO forces.
The deal covers up to 20,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System air-to-air and air-to-ground guidance sections, launchers, high-explosive warheads, rocket motors, training, engineering and technical support.
