No fewer than four soldiers have reportedly been killed by suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP in Borno State.
An African jihadism expert, Brant Philip, disclosed this in a report he shared on his official X handle on Thursday.
According to him, the attack carried out by the terrorists on August 6 between Yamtake and Bitta, also led to the injury of several other soldiers.
The assailants reportedly destroyed at least three operational vehicles and captured weapons belonging to the military officers.
“ISWAP conducted an ambush against the Nigerian army on August 6 between Yamtake and Bitta, Borno State, using small arms and an IED, reportedly killing four soldiers and injuring others while destroying three vehicles and capturing a fourth along with weapons and ammunition, graphic pictures were also released showing the corpses of dead soldiers”, the post read.
The authorities are yet to confirm the ugly incident. However, the military on Tuesday said several terrorists were killed while some soldiers sustained injuries when troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled an attack by ISWAP fighters on a military base in the Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
Acting Information Officer, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed the incident in a statement.
