A former Minister of Education, Prof. Chinwe Obaji has called for continuity of legacies put in place by the immediate past Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is’haq Oloyede.
Obaji made the call in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos.
She said there was the need for the new Registrar of the examination board, Prof. Segun Aina, to inherit not just the office, but a legacy painstakingly build in the last decade.
According to her the foundation built by his predecessor, Prof. Oloyede is strong and worthy of preservation.
Speaking further, she urged Prof, Aina to lead with humility and govern with courage.
“The true measure of leadership is not in dismantling what works, but in strengthening and preparing it for greater service.
“Let technology continue to advance justice rather than convenience and let every decision reflect equity, transparency and excellence.
“A wise builder does not uproot a solid foundation; rather, he builds upon it and leaves the house stronger than he met it.
“As Prof. Aina assumes this important national responsibility, he is inheriting not merely an office, but a legacy painstakingly built on integrity, innovation, accountability, transparency and public trust.
“The foundation laid by Prof. Oloyede is enviable and worthy of preservation. It should be guarded jealousy.
“It should be built upon thoughtfully. Where improvement is necessary, let it be guided by wisdom, consultations and an unwavering commitment to national interest,” she admonished.
The former minister however expressed optimism that the new registrar possessed the experience, competence and character, required to take the board to even greater heights.
“Nigerians look up to his leadership with great hope and expectation. May their confidence be rewarded by policies and actions that deepen merit, fairness, efficiency and public confidence in our educational system,” Prof. Obaji said.
The former minister said institutions outlived individuals, noting that greater achievement would not merely be the reforms introduced, but the enduring culture of integrity, innovation and selfless service left behind.
She then prayed God to grant Prof. Aina the wisdom, strength, discernment and good health, as he embarked on the task.
NAN reports that Prof. Oloyede, retired after completing a two-term tenure of five years, as registrar of the board, on Friday, July 31.
He was initially appointed as registrar in August 2016 by late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Oloyede had handed over to his successor Prof.Aina.
