The Jigawa State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Budget Review and Supplementary Appropriation Bill of N46.3 billion into law.

The passage followed the consideration and approval of 186 recommendations contained in the supplementary budget during the Assembly’s plenary on Monday.

Presenting the bill for consideration, the Majority Leader and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Lawan Muhammad Dansure, said the supplementary appropriation would increase the state’s 2026 budget from the original N901.841 billion to N948.210 billion.

He said the additional resources would be channelled to various Ministries, Departments and Agencies to strengthen the implementation of key government programmes and projects.

According to him, the review includes additional revenue estimates of N24.653 billion, as well as N49.878 billion in savings to be reallocated to various budget lines.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, said the supplementary budget placed greater emphasis on critical sectors, particularly agriculture and education.

Dangyatin said the budget review was in line with the state government’s commitment to prudence, accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.

He explained that the exercise was aimed at ensuring that available resources were directed towards programmes and projects capable of improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of Jigawa State.

The Assembly also approved a supplementary appropriation of N17.109 billion for the 27 Local Government Councils in the state.

The Speaker said the additional funding would support the councils in delivering essential services and implementing development programmes at the grassroots.

With the passage of the supplementary appropriation, Jigawa State’s 2026 budget now stands at approximately N948.210 billion.
