Jigawa community celebrates after three years of peace between farmers, herders

Daily Post 4 minutes 1 mins read

The Guri Local Government Council of Jigawa State has celebrated three years of sustained peace following years of recurring clashes between farmers and herders in the area.

The Chairman of Guri Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Danbarde, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen.

Danbarde attributed the achievement to the efforts of the Jigawa State Government under Governor Umar Namadi to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen security across communities.

He said the prevailing peace had enabled residents to coexist and engage in their daily activities without the recurring conflicts that previously affected parts of the area.

The chairman commended the state government for its commitment to maintaining peace and security, noting that peaceful coexistence was essential for sustainable development at the grassroots.

He also urged residents to sustain the achievement by embracing tolerance, mutual understanding and peaceful resolution of disputes.

Farmer-herder clashes have been a major security concern around the Guri axis, claiming lives and destroying properties, including incidents involving security personnel.

On the forthcoming 2027 general elections, Danbarde urged residents to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful conduct before, during and after the polls.
