…Company liaises with DSS, Police, NSCDC to protect staff

BAUCHI — Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, JED, has moved to strengthen security around its personnel in Bauchi following a clash between some of its staff and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, over the disconnection of electricity supply to NAF residential quarters.
The company said it was liaising with the Department of State Services, DSS, Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to prevent a recurrence and ensure the safety of its workers.
The development followed an incident on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the NAF residential quarters along Kano Road, Bauchi, which raised concerns from the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, over the safety of electricity workers carrying out their official duties.
The NAF facility has reportedly remained without electricity supply from JED since the incident.
In a letter to NUEE, Managing Director/CEO of JED, Sediko Douka, acknowledged the incident involving NAF personnel and staff of the company’s Bauchi Regional Office following the disconnection of electricity supply to the quarters.
Douka assured the union that the company remained committed to safeguarding the lives, rights and wellbeing of its employees.
He said management had directed all operational staff to strictly observe safety procedures and incident-control measures.
He added that the company was working with relevant security agencies and administrative authorities to improve coordination around its offices, work sites and other locations where its personnel operate.
According to him, JED was also strengthening its communication protocols to minimise misunderstandings over its operational procedures and prevent a recurrence of the incident.
“Where required, management will provide armed manpower as an additional protective measure for staff on the ground. The DSS, Police and Civil Defence have declared their willingness at our request,” he said.
Douka also said the company would provide necessary support to employees who were directly or indirectly affected by the incident.
He urged the union leadership to continue cooperating with management to ensure the safety of all staff members.
The JED chief further appreciated the role played by NUEE since the incident and appealed to the union to allow workers to continue with their normal activities.
