Rising Gambian judo star Faye Alex Njie has won a bronze medal at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, becoming the first and only Gambian to win multiple Commonwealth Games medals, further cementing his place as the country’s most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete.
His latest medal came four years after his groundbreaking silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, a performance that rewrote the nation’s sporting history and introduced a new era for Gambian judo.
Though Faye was underrated for a return to the podium in the Games where a new generation of hungry competitors with higher expectations and greater pressure, gather every four years, he proved that champions are measured not only by their talent but by their ability to deliver when it matters most.
The Gambia National Olympic Committee said Faye’s bronze medal represents far more than a place on the podium: ‘It is the culmination of years of discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to his craft.
