Kandeh gets pushback on calls for URR citizens to stand by their own

The Standard Gambia about 2 hours 2 mins read

The United Democratic Party (UDP) spokesperson for North Bank Region, Karamo Njie, has taken issues with the leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Mamma Kandeh, who is now allied with the governing NPP, asking him to ‘shut up’  if he does not have anything substantial to tell the rural people about their plight .

Njie was reacting to comments made by Kandeh who declared that politics is over in URR since several prominent political figures from the region are on the same side in alliance behind a fellow URR man, President Barrow.

“URR voters will not turn against their own sons,” Kandeh had said at one of President Barrow’s recent meetings in URR.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Njie dismissed Kandeh’s remarks as opportunistic and an indication of the depth to which the GDC leader’s moral has sunk in the last few weeks.

“I even struggled to confirm whether this was Kandeh speaking because I thought that despite his political U-turn he still has some of his conviction for decency. Well let me tell Kandeh to shut up because Gambians will never listen to him, especially the people of Basse. Are you just knowing that you and President Adama Barrow come from URR and so he deserves your support?. Why did it take you ten years to realise that?  The answer is simple. You have now surrendered your dignity to him. You are no longer the Kandeh that gave so much hope to the people of The Gambia by exposing what you strongly believed to be the mismanagement of the Barrow regime. You even refused to join the coalition led by President Barrow in 2016 and went on to say all sorts of negative things about him. What has changed Mr Kandeh,” Karamo Njie asked.

The UDP regional spokesman said what the people of URR will remember is the dramatic turnaround of Kandeh, and not his call for them to support their now “Kandeh the lion has now been reduced to cannon fodder. So sad,” Karamo Njie said.
