Kano Appeal Court demands evidence books from Sheikh Abduljabbar in blasphemy case

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

The Kano State High Court sitting as the Court of Appeal has directed lawyers representing Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir Kabara to present the books he relied on as evidence during his original trial.

Sheikh Abduljabbar is appealing the death sentence handed down to him by the Upper Sharia Court at Kofar Kudu following his conviction for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

During the hearing, Abduljabbar’s legal team urged the court to set aside the judgment of the lower court and discharge him of the allegations.

Counsel to the Kano State Government, however, asked the court to uphold the conviction and sentence delivered by the trial court.

Presiding over the matter, Justice Nasir Saminu directed Abduljabbar’s lawyers to produce the books used to support their arguments during the initial trial, in order to enable the appellate court to continue its review of the case.

The court stated that a date for judgment on the appeal will be communicated later.
