Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday a public holiday to mark the beginning of the new Islamic year, 1448 After Hijrah (AH).

According to an official press release issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the work-free day was approved to allow residents to observe and celebrate the significance of the Islamic lunar new year.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in the statement, congratulated Muslims in Kano and across the country on witnessing another new year, which begins with the sighting of the crescent moon of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar.

He urged the Muslim Ummah and the general public to use the period for reflection and self-evaluation.

“The Governor calls on the people of the state and the Muslim Ummah to reflect on their actions over the past year and to use the occasion to offer special prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity for the state and the country at large,” the statement read.

The governor also encouraged citizens to pray for continued peace, unity and economic progress in Kano State and Nigeria, especially in the face of current challenges.

He further reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to policies aimed at improving living standards, developing infrastructure and strengthening social welfare.
