Kebbi First Lady Donates 600 Calibrated Drapes To Reduce Maternal Deaths

 

The Wife of the Kebbi Governor, Zainab Nasir Idris, has donated 600 calibrated drapes to nine maternal and child healthcare facilities across the state as part of efforts to improve maternal healthcare services and reduce maternal mortality.

The donation, made through her non-governmental organisation, Nasara Foundation, comprised 30 cartons containing 600 calibrated drapes designed to help detect and manage postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), one of the leading causes of maternal deaths during childbirth.

The intervention is expected to strengthen healthcare services and enhance the capacity of health facilities to provide quality care for mothers.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony held at the Maternal and Child Healthcare Centre in Birnin Kebbi, the Coordinator of Nasara Foundation, Abdulrasheed Bala, said the donation reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.

He noted that under the leadership of Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris, the foundation has continued to implement various programmes and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of less privileged people across Kebbi State.

 

According to him, the calibrated drapes were donated specifically to support pregnant women and contribute to reducing maternal mortality in the state. He added that the items would be distributed free of charge to women during delivery at designated healthcare facilities.

Bala urged pregnant women to regularly attend antenatal care services at the nearest healthcare facilities to ensure safe delivery and access to appropriate medical care. He also called on healthcare workers and other stakeholders to ensure that the donated items are used strictly for their intended purpose and are not sold to beneficiaries.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary healthcare facilities, Hauwa’u Adamu expressed appreciation to Nasara Foundation for the timely intervention, describing it as commendable and highly beneficial.

She said the donation would assist healthcare workers in carrying out their duties more effectively and significantly contribute to reducing maternal and infant mortality in the state.

She further assured the foundation that the items would be properly utilised for the benefit of pregnant women and the communities served by the facilities.

 

The event also featured a demonstration on the use of calibrated drapes during childbirth to accurately measure blood loss, a practice expected to improve maternal health outcomes and reduce complications associated with postpartum bleeding.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of cartons of calibrated drapes to representatives of the nine maternal and child healthcare facilities that benefited from the donation.
