Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Kebbi State Government has commenced the construction of a new Police Mobile Force, PMF, base in Zuru as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and tackle banditry and other criminal activities in the southern part of the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris-Zuru, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.

He said the project fulfils Governor Nasir Idris’s pledge during his recent visit to Zuru and follows his directive for security agencies to review and strengthen their operational strategies in response to security challenges across the state.

Governor Idris flagged off the project by handing over the land designated for the facility to the contractor during a ceremony held in Zuru.

The Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, represented the governor at the event and performed the symbolic handover, while the Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Abubakar Ambursa, received the land on behalf of the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police.

According to the state government, the establishment of the PMF base is aimed at enhancing security presence and improving the response to banditry and other criminal activities in Kebbi South.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Emir of Zuru commended the state government for supporting security agencies and prioritising the safety of residents.

He noted that the government had continued to provide logistics and other support to security personnel to strengthen their operations across the state.

The monarch expressed confidence that the new PMF base would boost efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other crimes across the seven local government areas in Kebbi South.

Authorities said the facility is expected to improve rapid response capabilities, enhance intelligence gathering and increase the deployment of security personnel to vulnerable communities.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Zuru Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammad Bala Isah, traditional rulers and senior government officials.
