Kebbi orders armoured vehicles to boost security operations

Daily Post about 2 hours 3 mins read

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has disclosed that his administration has ordered new security vehicles, including armoured vehicles, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and protect communities affected by recent banditry attacks.

The governor made this known on Monday during sympathy visits to Jandutsi in Jega Local Government Area and Andarai in Maiyama Local Government Area, where he met victims of recent attacks and displaced residents.

This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, on Monday.

Speaking during the visits, Governor Idris assured residents that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property and would deploy the necessary resources to prevent further attacks.

He disclosed that additional security personnel had also been requested and deployed to vulnerable areas across the state.

According to him, “additional security personnel had also been requested and deployed to vulnerable areas, with the government working to ensure that the personnel are properly positioned in communities facing security challenges.”

The governor said the government’s aim was to ensure that residents could live and carry out their legitimate activities without fear.

Governor Idris said “the objective was to create an environment where residents could go about their legitimate activities without fear and sleep peacefully in their homes, stressing that the government would not relent in its efforts to protect citizens.”

He also called for stronger cooperation among neighbouring states, particularly in border communities where criminals could exploit jurisdictional boundaries to carry out attacks.

The governor urged his counterparts in the region and other stakeholders to improve inter-state cooperation and intelligence sharing as part of efforts to tackle insecurity.

Idris also directed the provision of additional relief assistance to communities affected by the attacks, assuring victims and displaced residents that the state government would continue to respond to their immediate humanitarian needs.

At Jandutsi, the District Head, Ibrahim Abubakar, and other community leaders thanked the governor for the relief assistance provided to affected residents and for visiting the community.

They appealed for permanent security personnel and additional support for local vigilantes to improve security in the area.

In Andarai, the District Head, Muhammad Aliyu, and the Chairman of Maiyama LGA, Adamu Aliyu Liba, also commended the governor for providing relief materials and financial assistance to victims and displaced persons.

They called for increased security presence, temporary shelters for displaced residents and urgent intervention to address the community’s water shortage.
