Hamas has announced the death of the commander of its Khan Younis Brigade, Muhammad Abdul Salam al-Yazouri, in an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip.
Palestinian media also reported that al-Yazouri, who was known by the alias Abu al-Haitham, was killed in an overnight strike in the Khan Younis area.
Hamas released a death notice for the commander through an account used to announce the deaths of members of its armed wing.
The Israeli military confirmed carrying out an airstrike in Khan Younis overnight, saying the operation targeted members of Hamas. However, the military said it had yet to independently confirm the identities of those killed.
The reported death of al-Yazouri comes as Israeli military operations continue in southern Gaza amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Al-Yazouri is the latest senior Hamas commander reported killed in Khan Younis. His predecessor, Rafa’a Salameh, was killed in July 2024 alongside Hamas military wing commander Muhammad Deif, according to Israeli authorities.
