KIWALA CAROLINE TAHIR: Bishop Gubazire’s ordination marks new chapter for Kabale Diocese

Watchdog Uganda about 3 hours 3 mins read

I joined the Catholic faithful and all people of goodwill in Uganda yesterday, 3rd October 2026, in celebrating the historic Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Rt. Rev. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire as the 5th Bishop of Kabale Diocese held at St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA) grounds.

The ordination marked a new chapter for Kabale Diocese following the appointment by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on 15th July 2026. Bishop Gubazire succeeded Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira who faithfully shepherded the Diocese for 23 years from 2003 to 2026.

  1. Praise to Government for Giving Space to Religions to Function Freely:

I wish to express my profound appreciation to H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM Government for upholding and protecting freedom of worship as enshrined in the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.

The peaceful, well-organized and highly attended ordination ceremony that attracted thousands of pilgrims, with full provision of security, protocol and space, was clear testimony that in Uganda religions are free to function, to evangelize, and to contribute to national development without interference. This is the Uganda we cherish — where State and Church work as partners in development.

  1. What the Catholic Church Brings on Table in Terms of Service:

The Catholic Church remains a formidable partner in national service delivery and human development. In Kabale and across Uganda, the Church brings to the table:

– Education: Hundreds of primary, secondary, vocational and university institutions like St. Ignatius University, molding disciplined and productive citizens.

-Health: Hospitals, Health Centres and dispensaries providing affordable healthcare to the most remote villages.

– Social Services & Livelihood:Caritas initiatives, poverty eradication projects, youth skilling, and support to widows and orphans.

– Moral Formation & Peace Building:Preaching unity, reconciliation, hard work, and the fight against poverty for household income creation.

– Community Mobilization:A well-organized structure reaching the last person in every parish and sub-parish.

This contribution is invaluable and deeply appreciated.

  1. Best Wishes on the New Episcopal Journey of the New Bishop:

To my Lord Bishop Gubazire — a son of Rushoroza, a Missionary of Africa (White Father) formed across Mozambique, Ghana and Malawi who served as Rector in Ejisu — I wish you a fruitful, humble and wisdom-filled episcopal ministry.

You returned home yesterday not as a stranger but as a shepherd who knows the smell of his sheep in Kigezi.

May your pastoral staff lead the faithful of Kabale in deeper faith, unity, and socio-economic transformation for the greater glory of God.

Ad multos annos, Bishop Gubazire! Long live Kabale Diocese! For God and My Country.
