The KKF Legacy Society and Rotary Club of Bourdillon prestige have launched a series of empowerment, environmental and community-focused initiatives in Lagos as part of its broader effort to promote financial independence, women’s entrepreneurship and grassroots development across Nigeria.
The initiatives were unveiled during a medical outreach programme at the Blue Roof Factory in Lagos, with the Foundation announcing plans to take its Hope 26 campaign to communities across the country.
Speaking during the event, the Founder of KKF, Ambassador, Kirti Sudhanshu, popularly known as Koki, said the organisation’s empowerment initiative was designed to help women move beyond trading and into manufacturing.
“Empowerment with dignity and our theme is: be independent,” Sudhanshu said.
She explained that the Koki initiative was established as a bridge between Nigeria’s strong trading culture and manufacturing, particularly by helping women acquire the knowledge and opportunities needed to become producers. Trading is our tradition, but we want to convert DNA from trading to manufacturing,” she said. “So Koki is the middle person, bridge between trader to manufacturer.”
According to her, financial independence is central to the initiative because economically empowered individuals are better positioned to improve their own lives and support others.
Also speaking, the Rotary Club of Bourdillon prestige, Winnie Ebiye, said the initiative was conceived in response to environmental challenges facing communities.
“We are here to unveil a project, a recycling project that seeks to address the environmental challenges and problems that we are facing and experiencing as a country today,” Fred said.
She identified indiscriminate dumping of sachets, bottles and other plastic materials into drainage channels as one of the factors contributing to flooding.
“Flood has been ravaging communities, surroundings in Lagos. And one thing can be attributed to that, dumping,” she said.
