President Bola Tinubu says no community will be left behind under his watch, noting that his administration is laying the foundation for prosperity.
Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, gave the assurance in Abuja on Wednesday during the inauguration of Phase I of the newly constructed 7-kilometre Kuje to Gwagwalada dual carriageway.
The President said that from the city center to the farthest satellite town of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), his administration was laying the foundation for prosperity.
“The results you are seeing here in Kuje-Gwagwalada are happening across the country. Indeed, we are building the nation of our dreams.
“My people of Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and all the area councils and satellite towns, hear me clearly: this government sees you. You are not forgotten.
“For too long, Abuja’s development stopped at the city center. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, every area council matters, and every community counts. We’ll keep bringing roads, water, schools, and hospitals to you,” he said.
According to him, the significance of the Kuje-Gwagwalada dual carriageway is both economic and geographical.
He said that for decades, the road had been a death trap, stressing that traders from Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali, and beyond had lost time, goods, and sometimes lives while plying it because criminals thrive in the darkness.
He added that students experienced wasted hours in traffic, while farmers could not get their produce to market on time.
“But that story ends today.
“This 7-kilometre dual carriageway with solar-powered streetlights, pedestrian walkways and proper drainage is more than a road.
“It is security; it is commerce; it is dignity. It is the economic corridor linking Abuja to three area councils and opening an exit route to Southern Nigeria.
“With the construction of this road, we have unlocked the agricultural potential of this area, opened new residential layouts, and made it safer for mothers, students, and workers to move at any hour.
“This is a renewed hope delivered to the doorsteps of our people in the satellite towns,” he said.
Tinubu commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for making Abuja work for all Nigerians, not just residents of Maitama and Asokoro.
“You have taken renewed hope to the grassroots. From judicial quarters in Katampe to roads in Kuje and Gwagwalada, you are proving that development must not be selective.
“You heard the cries of satellite communities, and you responded. That is leadership. Well done,” he said.
In his remarks, Wike explained that the project followed a request by the Gomo of Kuje during a community engagement with community leaders, who asked the people what they wanted from the government.
He recalled that traditional rulers and stakeholders had applauded the Tinubu administration for consulting them on their needs, describing it as “the first” of its kind in the community’s history.
He explained that during the meeting, stakeholders demanded the completion of the Airport Road to Kuje project, awarded by the previous administration, and the dualisation of the road from Tipper Garage to the LEA Secretariat.
The minister said that as promised, the roads were constructed and inaugurated, adding that the community’s future demanded the extension for the road to Gwagwalada.
Wike, who described the Kuje to Gwagwalada Road as “terrible”, thanked Tinubu for making funds available to complete the first phase of the project, adding that the second phase would be completed by December.
“That is what you call good governance. The people of Gwagwalada and the people of Kuje now appreciate that the Renewed Hope Agenda is not a slogan but a reality,” he said.
On her part, FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, said that the delivery of the project demonstrated Tinubu’s determination to improve the lives of Nigerians through strategic infrastructure investments.
Mahmoud commended Tinubu for leaving a lasting imprint on communities through transformative projects that expand opportunities, improve mobility, and stimulate economic activities.
Earlier, Mr Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator, FCT Satellite Towns Development Department, said that the 7-kilometre dual carriageway was awarded in February 2025.
Zulkiflu said that the second phase, the remaining six-kilometre dual carriageway, would be completed by December.
