Kwara State Police Commissioner, Ojo Adekimi, has directed the immediate and strict enforcement of all extant traffic laws and regulations across the state in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police.
This proactive measure comes on the heels of growing concerns over the increasing disregard for traffic rules and road safety protocols by some motorists and road users, a trend that has continued to contribute to avoidable road crashes, traffic congestion, obstruction of free vehicular movement, and the needless endangerment of lives and property.
The Command stated unequivocally that the enforcement exercise is aimed at restoring sanity, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations, safeguarding lives, and promoting an orderly road transport system throughout the state.
The Command, in a statement by its spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Wednesday, explained that the initiative is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to foster a culture of responsibility and respect for the rule of law.
Accordingly, all officers deployed for the exercise have been directed to carry out their duties professionally, firmly, and with the utmost respect for the rights and dignity of members of the public.
The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, also warned that any police officer found violating traffic regulations or engaging in any form of misconduct during the enforcement operation will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command further urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as all other road users, to comply with traffic laws by obeying road signs, observing speed limits, avoiding dangerous driving, ensuring their vehicle documents are valid, and refraining from any conduct capable of endangering other road users.
The Command solicited the understanding, cooperation, and support of all residents of the state as the statewide enforcement exercise commences.
