Kwara State Transporters under their various unions on Thursday passed a vote of confidence in the present administration in the state, citing the people-focused programmes and empowerments by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
They also endorsed the candidacy of the Speaker Kwara House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Salihu Yakubu Danladi as a Gubernatorial flag-bearer under the All progressives Congress (APC).
The unions, who spoke in Ilorin through their leaders, comprised members of the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).
Chairman of MOUN, who is the current Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Tinuola, commended the Governor for supporting his members through various interventions, and asked for more.
“Words are not enough to thank our Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what he has been doing to our members and other transporters. He has empowered us on several occasions and we know he will continue to empower us,” Tinuola said at a stakeholders’ engagement with the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dignitaries at the event included the Senior Adviser and Counsellor to Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Sa’adu Salau; State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon Aliu Kora Sabi; State APC Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi, and other party executives and elders; Chairman, Niger River Basin Development Authority, Alhaji Abdullateef Gidado Alakwa; Alhaji Abdulrazaq Jiddah; and General Manager KWASIP, Dr Abdulwasiu Tejidini.
“My case is a typical example. The Governor saw me as a transporter before supporting my nomination and election as Council Chairman. This tells a lot about his leadership style and his support for the transporters in the state. We therefore thank and assure the Governor that our support and vote are for APC candidates,” MOUN Chairman added.
Chairman of tricycle operators under NURTW, Lawal Kamaldeen, for his part, lauded Governor AbdulRazaq for prioritizing the welfare of his members across the state, pledging to reciprocate with a massive vote for APC candidates in the next elections.
Abdullateef Arigbabuwo, the Chairman of tricycle operators under RTEAN, said the people of the state including their members benefited so much under this government, citing investments in road infrastructure and social safety nets.
“There are a lot of positive changes in the affairs of the transport unions now in the state. The government has achieved greatly and has also given us enormous support by donating tricycles to our members. It also contructed motor-able roads for the comfort of road users,” he said.
