Stakeholders in the country’s aviation industry are set to deliberate on how to balance Federal Government’s revenue demands with the need to stimulate sustainable growth in the air transport sector.
The discussion comes amid concerns that government’s increasing focus on revenue generation from the aviation industry could undermine the growth and competitiveness of the sector.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo; Chairman of Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, Dr Wale Babalakin; and Chairman of Air Peace Limited, Allen Onyema, will lead the discussions at the 30th edition of the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents, LAAC, Annual Conference.
The conference, themed: ‘Towards a Sustainable Aviation Industry: Balancing Government Revenue Demands with Sector Growth,’ is scheduled to hold on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Providence Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
It will bring together government officials, aviation regulators, airline operators, airport managers and other stakeholders to examine the fiscal and operational challenges confronting the sector and explore policy measures that could support sustainable growth.
Keyamo will attend as the Special Guest of Honour, while Babalakin will chair the event. Onyema will deliver the keynote address, drawing on his extensive experience in the aviation industry to examine issues expected to shape policy recommendations for the sector.
The conference will also feature the unveiling of the second edition of LAAC’s Champions of Aviation publication, which chronicles the achievements and contributions of aviation agencies, airline operators and other industry stakeholders.
Speaking on the forthcoming conference, Chairman of the LAAC Conference Committee, Mr Wole Shadare, said the aviation industry remained a strategic driver of economic development, trade, tourism and national integration.
He, however, noted that increasing fiscal pressures and multiple charges imposed on industry players had continued to fuel concerns over the need to balance government revenue generation with the growth and sustainability of the sector.
Shadare said: “The aviation industry remains a strategic driver of economic development, trade, tourism and national integration. However, increasing fiscal pressures and multiple charges have continued to generate conversations about the need to strike a balance between government revenue generation and the growth of the industry.”
