Lagos govt clears shanties on Lagos-Badagry Expressway

Daily Post about 3 hours 1 mins read

The Lagos State Government has commenced the removal of illegal squatters and makeshift structures along the Orile–Okokomaiko corridor of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as part of efforts to restore order and improve environmental conditions along the busy route.

The development was disclosed on Monday in a repost shared by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, through his official X handle.

According to the repost, the exercise is being carried out by a joint enforcement team tasked with sanitising the express way corridor and removing unauthorised occupants.

The operation specifically targets shanties and temporary structures erected on the median of the expressway and other illegal locations within the corridor.

Authorities said the clearance exercise is aimed at enhancing public safety, improving environmental sanitation and ensuring the free flow of traffic along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The repost further stated that the operation reflects the commitment of the state government to sustaining environmental standards and maintaining public order across Lagos State.

The enforcement exercise was still ongoing as of the time this report was filed.
