LaLiga: Real Madrid submit documents to strip Barça of titles, remove them from Europe

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Real Madrid have requested that Barcelona be stripped of the titles won between 2001 and 2018 in connection with UEFA’s investigation into the Negreira case.

According to Spanish publication Diario AS, Real Madrid have submitted documentation to UEFA regarding the matter.

The submission by Real Madrid reportedly comprises 50,000 pages of materials, including numerous documents, evidence and statements from multiple parties. UEFA has formally initiated a disciplinary investigation into the Negreira case.

European football’s governing body is investigating Barcelona’s €8.4 million payment to José María Enríquez Negreira.

The payment was made to Negreira, who served as vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees between 2001 and 2018.

The matter became public in April 2023, and UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin described it as among the most serious allegations in football history.

Following a three-and-a-half-year delay attributed to judicial proceedings, Real Madrid have now intensified the matter. UEFA is currently reviewing the materials submitted by Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are seeking the removal of all titles Barcelona won between 2001 and 2018. Additionally, UEFA possesses the authority to exclude Barcelona from European competitions pursuant to Article 4 of UEFA’s regulatory framework.
