LaLiga: Why we lost 3-0 against Athletic – Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Simeone, has explained why his team lost 3-0 to Athletic Club in LaLiga on Sunday.

Three goals from Nico Williams, Robert Navarro and Oihan Sancet gave Athletic victory over Simeone’s side at San Mamés.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Simeone admitted that the hosts were much better organised defensively than Atletico.

“The truth is, we started the game very well, pretty much as expected. But those five minutes [of the start of the second half] today were a real wake-up call. We have to react and address the things we need to improve,” Simeone said.

“After that, it became a completely different game, much more complicated because the opposition was much better organized defensively. Athletic deserved to win,” he added.

Atletico Madrid will now face Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday.
