Military helicopter scare in Anambra: Police react

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Anambra Police Command has debunked a viral social media report alleging that a military helicopter dropped unidentified items in a bush located between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu communities in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.

The Command described the report as a false security alert and urged residents not to panic.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, police operatives were immediately deployed to the area following the circulation of the report.

The police spokesman said investigations and on-the-spot assessment revealed that the area remained peaceful, with no suspicious objects or security threats detected.

He noted that normal activities were ongoing in and around the location, while security personnel continued routine surveillance to guarantee public safety.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, called on members of the public to disregard the alarm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing fear and undermining confidence in the state’s security architecture.

The police chief reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain peace and security across Anambra State.

He also advised residents to verify security-related information through official channels and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or other security formations.

The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media, which security experts say can trigger unnecessary panic and confusion among the public.
