Nigerian comedian and actor, Anita Alaire Asuoha, popularly known as Realwarripikin, has described her 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) Best Stand-Up Comedian award as a reminder to dream bigger and continue pushing the boundaries of her career.
Realwarripikin emerged winner in the comedy category at the awards ceremony held in Dallas, Texas, defeating other nominees including Basketmouth, Bovi, Godfrey, Eric Omondi, Trevor Noah, Patrick “Salvado” Idringi and Ty Ngachira.
Reflecting on the honour in a chat with Potpourri, the comedian said the award represented recognition for the years of work, persistence and personal experiences that have shaped her career.
“This award means a lot to me because it is a recognition of the journey, the work and the years of showing up even when I didn’t know where it would lead,” she said.
“To be recognised as Best Comedian at AFRIMMA, representing Nigeria and Africa, is a huge honour. It also reminds me that staying true to who you are and using your story to connect with people can take you places you never imagined.”
Realwarripikin, who has built a career across stand-up comedy, acting and digital content, said the recognition had also increased her determination to take her brand to bigger platforms.
“As they say, the reward for hard work is more work. For me, it is a reminder to dream even bigger. There’s a lot ahead for Realwarripikin,” she said.
She disclosed that her next major milestone would be her London show scheduled for November 28 at Indigo at The O2, adding that several other projects and events were also in the works.
“I want to keep pushing boundaries, taking the brand to bigger stages and creating work that connects with people across Africa and beyond,” she added.
Known for her Warri-inspired humour, energetic stage performances and distinctive delivery, Realwarripikin gained wider attention through comedy skits and social media content before expanding into stand-up comedy and acting.
Her AFRIMMA recognition adds to her growing profile as one of the Nigerian female comedians making an impact across stand-up, digital entertainment and live performance.
The 2026 AFRIMMA ceremony also recognised several other Nigerian entertainers. Davido won Album of the Year for 5ive, while Tems and Ruger were named Best Female West Africa and Best Male West Africa respectively.
Phyno won Best Male Rap Act, Fola was named Best Newcomer, Mercy Chinwo won Best Gospel and DJ Tunez received the Best DJ Africa award.
Founded in Dallas in 2014, the African Muzik Magazine Awards celebrates music and entertainment talents from Africa and the diaspora, with categories covering various regions, genres and aspects of African entertainment.
