The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), says it has recorded 78 cases, rescued and reunited 258 victims with their families in the last three years in Jigawa.
The NAPTIP Commander in the state, Mr Abdulkadir Turajo, made this known on Thursday in Dutse in a statement to commemorate the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
Turajo said a total of 512 migrants who are indigene of the state were also returned from different countries by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) between January 2025 and July 2026.

The commander added that the agency has conducted 150 sensitisation campaigns in schools, communities, markets and worship places across the 27 LGAs of the state.
“The command also conducted six sensitisation campaigns to commemorate the 2026 Day in Kazaure and Roni LGAs, being some of the most trafficking in persons areas in Jigawa State.
“The Command wishes to use this medium to send a strong warning to all traffickers, both within and from outside, wishing to use the state as a source, route or destination for their illicit activities to desist from doing so, as we are ever ready and capable of dealing decisively with anybody or group of people that try to engage in human trafficking within the state.
“We have a mandate, and we shall discharge it to the letter for the overall good of the state and the nation at large,” the commander said
Turajo further urged the public to support the agency by reporting all suspected cases of human trafficking, child abuse and other related offences to the state command headquarters at Block 5 Old State Secretariat, Dutse or via 0904 964 3905, infojigawa@naptip.gov.ng, 627 short code and through the NAPTIP iReporter APP on Android and ios.
He also enjoined people to desist from hiding information or harboring people that are engaging in human trafficking and related offences.
The commander, who appreciated the state government for all its support and cooperation, lauded Gov. Umar Namadi for his commitment and support to the war against human trafficking.
“We equally appreciate security agencies and all other partners in the state for their support. We urge you all to join hands with NAPTIP in this collective fight against our common enemy.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme for the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking is “Trapped Behind The Scam’’ which calls for accelerated action to end human trafficking, highlighting the fake job advertisements, scam compounds and all cyber-enabled fraud used by traffickers to lure the vulnerable victims into illicit trafficking activities.
